HYDRA carried out a large scale operation on Saturday to remove encroachments from Mushkin Lake located between Puppalaguda and Narsingi villages in Gandipet mandal. Acting on complaints and detailed field verification, the agency took strict action against illegal constructions within the Full Tank Level (FTL) area of the lake.
Officials found that attempts were made to alter the lake’s natural boundaries and convert the land for large scale real estate development. HYDRA, along with revenue, irrigation, and municipal officials, identified that the lake originally spans about 59.11 acres, with FTL boundaries of 52.20 acres and government shikham land of 20.23 acres. Encroachments over nearly 35 acres were removed and fencing was completed to protect the lake area.
The operation followed complaints raised by local residents through Prajavani, alleging misuse of CSR funds and illegal construction activities. After multiple warnings and time given for voluntary evacuation, several huts and temporary structures were cleared. Locals welcomed the action, appreciating HYDRA’s efforts to protect the lake and demanding full restoration of the water body.
