In a major relief to farmers in Telangana, the Telangana Electricity Regulatory Commission (TGERC) has issued orders allowing agricultural power connections at a fixed charge of ₹1,000 per kilowatt. Farmers can now obtain electricity connections by paying charges strictly based on the required load capacity, without any additional fees. This decision removes the earlier burden of extra payments and unofficial charges, offering much-needed transparency and relief to the farming community.
Under the previous system, agricultural connections were provided only if the motor was within three electricity poles from the supply line; otherwise, farmers had to pay more than ₹45,000 under Outright Contribution (ORC). With the new TGERC orders, this financial burden has been eliminated. The new rules also make it easier for apartments, residential complexes, and commercial buildings to obtain power connections by paying charges based on load capacity. DISCOMs will bear the responsibility of installing lines and transformers if the property is within one kilometer of the power line, while consumers must bear full costs if it exceeds that distance.
