The Maoist party has suffered another major setback in Telangana, with around 40 Maoists surrendering before the state police on Friday. The surrender took place in the presence of Telangana Director General of Police Shivadhar Reddy.
Among those who laid down arms are three state-level Maoist leaders, along with cadres from neighbouring Chhattisgarh. The Telangana DGP is scheduled to address the media at 2:30 pm to provide detailed information on the surrender, during which the surrendered Maoists will be presented to the press.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has earlier stated that Maoist activities would be completely eliminated by March next year. As part of this objective, security forces have intensified operations under “Operation Kagar.”
Several Maoist leaders have already been killed in encounters with security forces, including prominent figures such as Hidma, Chalapathi, Balakrishna, Ganesh, Katta Ramachandra Reddy, and Basavaraj. These losses have significantly weakened the Maoist movement.
With the death of senior leaders and sustained security operations, the Maoist presence has been steadily declining. In recent months, many Maoists have abandoned forest hideouts and surrendered to authorities, marking a serious blow to the organization.
