A new rule has come into effect for devotees at the Gangotri Temple located in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. Temple authorities stated that consuming Panchgavya before entering the shrine has been made mandatory for visitors.
According to temple officials, the decision was taken to ensure that only true believers enter the temple during the ongoing Char Dham Yatra. Panchgavya is a traditional mixture prepared using cow urine, cow dung, milk, curd and ghee, and is considered sacred in certain spiritual practices.
Authorities said the measure has been introduced as part of efforts to preserve the sanctity of the temple. Special arrangements have been made at the entrance so that devotees can follow the ritual before darshan. With this year’s Char Dham Yatra underway, large numbers of pilgrims are arriving at the sacred Himalayan shrines.
