With many city residents planning to travel to their hometowns for Sankranti, Hyderabad Police have issued a strong precautionary advisory urging people to secure their homes and valuables. Sajjanar, Hyderabad City Police Commissioner, advised citizens to inform their neighbours or the local police station before leaving the city. He stressed that jewellery, cash, and other valuables should not be left at home and must be stored safely in bank lockers. Residents were also urged to contact the nearest police station or beat officer prior to travel and dial 100 immediately in case of any emergency.
As schools are set to close for Sankranti holidays, large numbers of people from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are expected to travel, leading to crowded buses and trains. With several homes remaining locked, police have warned that burglars may target unattended houses. To prevent thefts, Hyderabad Police said they are alerting colonies and gated communities and advised residents to take preventive steps such as keeping lights on in one room, avoiding social media posts about travel plans, installing CCTV cameras, and ensuring watchmen and community committees remain active. Police assured that patrols would be intensified in residential areas during the festive season.
