Amid a strike call by workers, the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation has initiated contingency measures to ensure minimal inconvenience to passengers in Hyderabad. Officials announced that nearly 1,000 buses will be operated through rental and outsourcing modes, including 480 electric buses, 250 hired buses, and 270 additional vehicles under neighboring service arrangements. With the strike expected to begin from Tuesday midnight, authorities are working to maintain essential connectivity across the city. However, given that nearly 26 lakh passengers rely on around 3,000 buses daily, managing demand with reduced fleet strength remains a significant challenge.
Experts indicate that at least 2,000 buses are required to meet commuter demand effectively. Even with increased trip frequency, accommodating passenger flow may prove difficult. To address the gap, officials are considering deploying outsourced drivers and conductors, including candidates who missed earlier recruitment opportunities. Meanwhile, other transport systems such as MMTS and metro services are expected to shoulder additional load. Increasing suburban rail services on routes like Falaknuma, Lingampalli, Medchal, and Malkajgiri could ease pressure. Peak hours between 8–11 AM and 5–9 PM will be critical, especially on busy corridors like LB Nagar, Uppal, Ibrahimpatnam, Hayathnagar, IT corridor, and Patancheru.
