A significant step is being taken to promote the use of electric vehicles in Hyderabad. The Southern Telangana Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL) has set a target to make around 2,000 EV charging stations available across Greater Hyderabad within the next six months.
TGSPDCL is giving special focus to strengthening EV charging infrastructure across the city. Under the Prime Minister’s Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) scheme, the power utility has already completed a special drive to identify locations for setting up public electric vehicle charging stations.
As part of this initiative, proposals have been prepared for a total of 3,489 EV charging stations across three categories in 10 circles within the Greater Hyderabad region. In the first phase, the discom aims to commission up to 2,000 charging stations within a six-month period.
Under Category A, the central government is providing 100 percent financial support for EV charging stations installed at central and state government offices, government residential complexes, hospitals, and educational institutions.
In Category B, charging stations set up along national highways and near railway stations, airports, bus stations, metro stations, and toll plazas are eligible for subsidies ranging from 70 to 80 percent.
Similarly, under Category C, the central government is offering up to 80 percent subsidy for EV charging stations established on main roads, in shopping malls, and in market complexes.
