Amid crucial debates in the ongoing parliamentary session, YSR Congress Party MP Y.S. Avinash Reddy raised an unusual concern by questioning whether Natu Kodi (country chicken) has become more expensive than mutton in Andhra Pradesh. The MP submitted a representation to Parliament stating that prices of country chicken were rising alarmingly and, according to him, had even crossed mutton prices, seeking immediate clarification from the Central Government.
Responding to the query, the Union Ministry of Animal Husbandry clarified that the average price of Natu Kodi stands at around ₹500 per kilogram, while mutton costs nearly ₹900 per kilogram, making country chicken comparatively cheaper. The Ministry also stated that the Central Government has mechanisms in place to compensate poultry farmers during crises such as bird flu outbreaks. Following this clarification, Avinash Reddy appealed to the Centre to take steps to ensure a reduction in Natu Kodi prices. Meanwhile, the issue triggered reactions on social media, with netizens commenting humorously on the choice of priority raised in Parliament.
