A major fraud has come to light near the Vaishno Devi Temple, where fake silver items and ornaments were being offered in the name of donations. Reports suggest that nearly 20 tonnes of counterfeit silver offerings have been identified. Upon inspection, it was found that only about 5 to 6 percent of the donated items contained genuine silver, while the rest were silver-coated materials. Devotees, believing them to be real silver, have been offering these items as donations.
Due to this fraud, the temple’s expected revenue has reportedly been severely affected. While the anticipated earnings were around ₹550 crore, the actual amount received has been limited to just ₹30 crore. Allegations have surfaced that traders are deceiving devotees by supplying fake silver products, leading to widespread concern over the malpractice.
