Following the ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran amid escalating tensions in West Asia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the US President held their first phone conversation. During the call, the two leaders discussed the ongoing situation in West Asia as well as various aspects of bilateral cooperation between the two countries. In the approximately 40-minute conversation, both leaders particularly emphasized the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open and ensuring the safe and secure movement of ships.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi later shared details of the conversation on the social media platform X. He stated that the two leaders held comprehensive discussions on bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the strategic partnership. He also noted that they discussed the current situation in West Asia and stressed the need to keep the Strait of Hormuz open and secure.
The conversation was also confirmed by the United States Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor. He stated that Prime Minister Modi and President Trump had spoken over the phone just minutes earlier. He further revealed that, along with developments in West Asia, the President also provided updates on several key issues concerning ongoing India–US engagements in Washington.
