The Hyderabad–Chennai bullet train project is moving rapidly towards execution. Once operational, the high-speed corridor will cut the current 12-hour journey down to just 2 hours and 20 minutes. The Tamil Nadu government has received the final alignment report, which now includes a new station at Tirupati.
The project requires 223.44 hectares of land, and the Railway Ministry has asked state authorities to expedite land acquisition to avoid delays.New Tirupati Station Added: Based on Tamil Nadu’s request, the earlier plan via Gudur has been revised to add a dedicated bullet train station in Tirupati. Two stations — Chennai Central and Chennai Ring Road — are proposed within Tamil Nadu. To support commercial activity and passenger flow, the Railways has asked for around 50 acres around each station.
This is one of the two major high-speed rail corridors planned in South India, the other being the Hyderabad–Bengaluru corridor.12-km Tunnel Segment: According to the Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority, once the DPR is formally approved, the final clearance will be issued within a month. The Tamil Nadu stretch will also include a 12-kilometre tunnel section. Officials confirmed that none of the required land falls under forest area.
The alignment, based on detailed surveys by RITES Limited, will cross 65 roads and 21 high-tension power lines along the route.
