In a major change across the country, cash payments at all toll plazas will be completely stopped from April 10. The National Highways Authority of India has announced new rules to make toll collection fully digital and faster for travelers.
As per the new system, FASTag will be mandatory for all vehicles. If a vehicle does not have FASTag, the toll fee must be paid through UPI along with an extra 25 percent charge. Also, the earlier system of toll exemptions using ID cards will be discontinued. Even VIP vehicles will now have to use a special exempted FASTag.
Earlier this month, from April 1, FASTag prices were increased by 2.5 percent. Officials say these changes aim to reduce waiting time at toll plazas and make travel smoother on highways.
