An earthquake struck the northeastern Indian states of Assam and Tripura early Monday morning, causing panic among residents. In Assam’s Morigaon region, the tremors measured 5.1 on the Richter scale, while Tripura’s Gomati district experienced an earthquake of 3.9 magnitude.
Officials said the epicenter of the Assam earthquake was located at a depth of about 50 kilometers near Morigaon. Mild tremors were also felt in some parts of the neighboring state of Meghalaya.
Following the tremors, people rushed out of their homes in fear. However, no reports of loss of life or property damage have been reported so far. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation.
