Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has alleged that the Central Government is conspiring to engage in gerrymandering under the pretext of delimitation. Clarifying that the Congress party extends its full support to the Women's Reservation Bill, he noted that the bill had already received parliamentary approval in 2023. He criticized the government, stating that the proposal currently being introduced bears no relation whatsoever to women's reservation. Against this backdrop, he released a video message addressing the public.
Rahul Gandhi asserted that the Centre is attempting to redraw constituency boundaries through delimitation in order to secure political advantages in its favor. He criticized the move to sideline the caste census, arguing that this results in injustice to the Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Backward Classes (BC). He made it clear that the Congress party would not tolerate any attempts to undermine the interests of the Southern and Northeastern states. Responding to this same issue, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also demanded that the delimitation exercise be undertaken only after the completion of the census.
