The Delhi Government has taken a strong step to control pollution in the city. As part of this effort, it has released a draft of the Electric Vehicle Policy for 2026–2030. The main goal of this policy is to reduce the use of petrol and diesel vehicles and encourage people to switch to electric vehicles.
According to the draft policy, registrations for new petrol-powered two-wheelers will be completely stopped from April 1, 2028. After this date, only new electric bikes will be allowed for registration. In addition, starting from January 2027, only electric auto-rickshaws will be eligible for new registrations. This move is expected to reduce pollution levels and promote cleaner transport options.
With these strict rules, Delhi is aiming to become a leading city in adopting eco-friendly vehicles. The government believes that this step will not only improve air quality but also support a sustainable future for the city.
