Congress Party National President Mallikarjun Kharge announced that the party has decided to oppose the Delimitation (Redistribution of Constituencies) Bill. However, he clarified that they do support the Women's Reservation Bill. Kharge alleged that they have objections regarding the manner in which the bill was introduced, accusing the Central Government of undertaking these measures with political ulterior motives.
Speaking to the media following a meeting of the INDIA alliance in Delhi, Kharge criticized the government, stating that it is introducing these bills solely to weaken the opposition parties. While reiterating support for the cause of women's reservation, he expressed the view that it is inappropriate to link delimitation to the process before the census has been completed. He warned that the Executive is usurping the powers of Parliament and called upon all opposition parties to unite and fight against this.
