Cambodia has agreed to a ceasefire with Thailand, bringing relief after weeks of heightened tensions along their shared border. The region witnessed rocket and artillery attacks along with fighter jet operations, raising serious security concerns. To restore calm, both nations reached a ceasefire agreement, which was officially announced by their respective defence ministers.
According to a joint statement, both countries agreed not to advance their troops and to maintain existing military positions. Cambodia’s Defence Ministry stated that deploying reinforcements could negatively impact peace efforts and cause long-term damage to the situation. The ceasefire agreement was signed by Thailand’s Defence Minister Nattaphon Narkphanit and Cambodia’s Defence Minister Tea Seiha. The conflict, which lasted nearly 20 days, reportedly claimed 101 lives and displaced around 500,000 people across both countries.
