Former BCCI President Inderjit Singh Bindra passed away on Sunday night at the age of 82. He had been battling health issues and breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Fortis Hospital in Chandigarh. Bindra served as the BCCI president from 1999–2002 and again from 2005–2008, playing a pivotal role in the development of Indian cricket. His contributions were particularly significant in India’s victories at the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup. As one of the founders of the Punjab Cricket Association, Bindra also lent his name to the establishment of the PCA Stadium in Mohali.
Bindra was among the visionaries who supported initiatives like the IPL, helping take global cricket to new heights. Following his demise, BCCI President Roger Binny, Secretary Jay Shah, several former cricketers and the Punjab government expressed deep condolences, calling his loss an irreparable blow to Indian cricket.
