The Karnataka High Court has lifted the ban on bike taxi services in the state, staying its earlier orders and paving the way for their resumption. The court, however, directed the state government to implement specific regulations governing these services. Under the new guidelines, bike taxis will be classified as commercial vehicles and will be required to use yellow number plates, the court clarified.
Bike taxi operations had been suspended across Karnataka following the High Court’s directive issued in June last year. With the latest ruling, the possibility of restarting services has emerged, bringing relief to commuters, riders, and app-based mobility platforms. The state government is expected to frame and notify the necessary rules to ensure compliance and smooth implementation.
