A corruption scandal involving K. Shanti, an Assistant Commissioner in the Endowments Department, has come to light. Raids conducted by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) revealed that she had amassed assets worth crores of rupees—far exceeding her known sources of income—in less than six years of service. Following the discovery of these massive disproportionate assets during inspections conducted in Tadepalli (Guntur district) and surrounding areas, she was arrested and produced before a court, which remanded her to judicial custody until the 21st of this month.
During the inspections, authorities identified that she owned an expensive villa in Tadepalli and a flat in Visakhapatnam. It also came to light that she had mortgaged these properties with banks to secure loans. Raids were also conducted at the residences of her family members, leading to the discovery of a bank locker held in her name at a bank in Vijayawada. With court permission, authorities are set to open the locker to unearth further details regarding the case.
During the ACB raids, officials seized over 700 grams of gold, nearly 3 kilograms of silver, cash, bank deposits, vehicles, and valuable household appliances. The accumulation of such massive assets within such a short span of time has become a topic of widespread discussion across the state. Officials are continuing to conduct a deeper investigation into this matter.
