A tragic train accident occurred in Spain on Sunday, claiming at least 21 lives and leaving 73 people injured. The incident took place near the town of Adamuz in southern Spain.
According to local authorities, a train traveling from Malaga to Madrid derailed and collided with an oncoming high-speed train on an adjacent track. The derailed train was carrying around 300 passengers, while the second train had approximately 100 passengers on board.
Officials warned that the death toll could rise due to the severity of the injuries sustained by several passengers. In response to the accident, train services on the Madrid–Malaga route were suspended on Monday as a precautionary measure.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez expressed deep shock over the incident. Transport Minister Óscar Puente described it as an unusual and serious accident, adding that investigations are underway to determine the exact cause.
