Liquor sales in Telangana witnessed a massive surge during the New Year celebrations, creating a new record in the final week of December. With people celebrating the arrival of the New Year on a grand scale, liquor purchases increased significantly across the state.
According to Excise Department officials, liquor sales worth nearly Rs. 1,350 crore were recorded across the state over the past week. Of this, sales worth Rs. 975 crore were reported in just the last three days December 29, 30, and 31.
In comparison, liquor sales during the last three days of the previous year stood at Rs. 726 crore. Officials stated that higher consumer demand during the New Year festivities led to a sharp increase in sales this year.
It is learnt that December 31 alone recorded the highest liquor sales. The Excise Department said strict monitoring was in place throughout the celebrations, and action was taken wherever illegal transportation or unauthorised sales were detected.
