Recently, Deepika Padukone has been in the news for a number of controversial choices and audacious remarks regarding her upcoming movies. Many people were taken aback by her decision to leave Sandeep Reddy Vanga and Prabhas's highly anticipated project Spirit, as well as by her choice to withdraw from Kalki 2 despite having a major role in the first installment. The industry was intrigued and perplexed by these consecutive departures from two huge pan-Indian movies.
Deepika recently added to the conversation by saying that she no longer finds big-budget movies worth ₹500–600 crores exciting and that she now finds more fulfillment in encouraging and empowering upcoming talent. Although she stated that fame, wealth, and large numbers no longer motivate her, many online users felt that her statements went against her decisions. Online critics questioned why she signed these big-budget movies in the first place if she wasn't interested in them, sparking discussions about inconsistency and unfair treatment.
Deepika explained in an interview with Harper's Bazaar India that she and her team are focusing on telling meaningful stories and supporting actors, directors, and writers who have powerful voices. Social media users, however, noted that she continues to appear in high-profile movies such as Allu Arjun-Atlee's pan-India project and Shah Rukh Khan's King. Due to her departures from Spirit and Kalki 2, there has been a continuous debate about whether her recent remarks represent a sincere change of heart or selective reasoning.
