South Indian films have increasingly made their presence felt across India, especially with strong support from Hindi-speaking audiences. Blockbusters like Baahubali, KGF, and Pushpa proved that a pan-India hit requires both Southern and Northern audiences to achieve massive box office success.
Kantara Chapter 1 has performed well globally, collecting over ₹300 crore during its four-day extended weekend. However, its response in North India has been limited compared to other pan-India releases.
For reference, KGF Part 1 earned ₹45 crore nett in its entire Hindi run, while KGF Part 2 collected ₹53 crore nett on its first day itself. Pushpa Part 1 earned around ₹110 crore nett in Hindi, and Pushpa 2 surpassed that figure within just two days. In comparison, Kantara Chapter 1 collected around ₹80 crore nett in its full Hindi run. During the four-day extended weekend, it made approximately ₹70 crore nett in North India, indicating that it might need a fifth day to match the first installment’s total. Despite positive word-of-mouth, its performance in Hindi belts is below expectations.
North India Collections (4-day Extended Weekend):
Thursday: ₹18.50 Cr
Friday: ₹11.50 Cr
Saturday: ₹19.50 Cr
Sunday: ₹21.00 Cr
Total: ₹70.50 Cr (Estimated Nett)
Early trends suggest that it may be difficult for Kantara Chapter 1 to cross ₹200 crore nett in North India. In contrast, Baahubali 2, KGF 2, and Pushpa 2 achieved extraordinary numbers — ₹500 crore, ₹450 crore, and ₹800 crore nett respectively from their Hindi versions.
The film stars Rishab Shetty, Rukmini Vasanth, Jayaram, and Gulshan Devaiah, directed by Rishab Shetty and produced by Vijay Kiragandur under Hombale Films.
