Taapsee Pannu Opens Up About Discrimination Against Actresses

Taapsee Pannu is known for expressing her opinions openly, even when they attract controversy. Recently, the actress spoke about the unequal treatment female actors can face in the film industry. She said actresses are often expected to reach shooting locations several hours before the male actors, while the facilities provided to them may not always be adequate.

Recalling an experience from the early stage of her career, Taapsee said a grand introduction sequence featuring her was shot for a film but was later removed. According to her, she was told that the decision was taken after the film’s hero objected to the scene. She also recalled refusing to change a particular dialogue, saying that the makers could mute it if necessary. However, when she watched the film in theatres, she found that the dialogue had been changed and recorded through another dubbing artist. Taapsee said such incidents reflect the discrimination actresses continue to face in several aspects of filmmaking.
