Among the films releasing next week, Dulquer Salmaan’s Kaantha has built up solid expectations. The film’s buzz has grown stronger as Rana Daggubati not only produced it but also plays a crucial role. The recently released trailer gave audiences a glimpse of the story’s tone and emotional depth. Actress Bhagyashree Borse plays the female lead, while Samuthirakani portrays an important role after Dulquer.
Everything seems promising, but there’s one concern surrounding Kaantha. The movie’s backdrop reportedly connects to the life of a legendary Tamil actor who has appeared in very few films. The film depicts the journey of an actor whose ego leads him to drift away from the mentor who gave him life, completely changing his career. The narrative blends real events with creative liberty, but how well it connects with Telugu audiences remains to be seen. Director Selvamani Selvaraj appears to have infused the film with a strong Tamil flavor, which raises questions about how relatable it will feel to Telugu viewers. Unlike Mahanati, which resonated deeply because almost every Telugu household knew Savitri, Kaantha doesn’t enjoy that familiarity. The team hasn’t officially labeled it as a biopic either.
If Kaantha manages to generate positive word of mouth, it could turn into a festival for its makers, as current box-office buzz is relatively low. Films like The Girlfriend and The Great Pre-Wedding Show are doing decently with good talk but aren’t performing exceptionally. If Kaantha sees an unexpected surge in collections by Sunday, it might even earn a super hit status. However, it faces competition from Santhana Prapthirastu and the re-release buzz around Shiva. To emerge victorious amid these challenges, Kaantha will need extraordinary word of mouth and strong audience support.
