A Key Step Towards Musi River Rejuvenation.

The Telangana government has taken a key decision aimed at addressing Hyderabad’s drinking water needs while supporting the rejuvenation of the Musi River. Orders have been issued for a project to construct two major pipelines to transport water from the Mallanna Sagar reservoir to Ghanpur. Each pipeline will have a capacity of around 10 TMC, enabling the planned transfer of 20 TMC of water to Hyderabad.

The water will be supplied through Phases 2 and 3 of the Godavari Drinking Water Project. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board had earlier invited tenders for the works. The project has an estimated cost of ₹5,383.67 crore and will be executed in two packages under the Hybrid Annuity Model. The first package will cover the Mallanna Sagar-Ghanpur stretch, while the second will extend from Ghanpur to Osman Sagar. Pipeline construction, pumping, testing and commissioning works will be included in the project.
