Promoting a movie with confidence is fine — even a little exaggeration works. But when actors make bold statements before release, it can often backfire badly. What’s meant to build hype can turn into trolling if the film doesn’t meet expectations. Recently, veteran actor Rajendra Prasad found himself in such a situation after his comments at the “Mass Jathara” pre-release event. He said, “If the audience doesn’t get shocked watching this movie, I’ll quit the industry.” Unfortunately, that statement has now become a meme topic online.
Rajendra Prasad probably meant “shock” in a positive sense, but viewers seem to have taken it otherwise — wondering how such a routine movie could inspire such confidence. This isn’t the first time bold claims have gone wrong. Actor Vishwak Sen once said his film “Paagal” would reopen theatres post-pandemic, but it flopped. Similarly, Priyadarshi, inspired by Nani’s pre-release challenge for “Court,” made a similar promise for “Mithramandali” — but that film turned out to be a disaster. On the flip side, Nani’s statement for “Court” actually worked, as the movie became a hit.
The takeaway? Grand statements might grab attention, but they can also become a PR nightmare if things go south. Sometimes, silence sells better than overconfidence.
