As body heat increases due to hot weather, spicy food, dehydration, excessive caffeine, alcohol consumption, certain medications, or health conditions, many people prefer coconut water or buttermilk to cool the body. According to Dr. K. Sheshi Kiran, Senior Consultant General Physician at Yashoda Hospitals, both drinks are beneficial, but each serves a different purpose. Coconut water is naturally rich in potassium, magnesium, and electrolytes, making it the ideal choice after exercise, prolonged sun exposure, or mild dehydration, as it quickly restores hydration and energy.
Buttermilk contains probiotics, protein, calcium, natural sodium, and plenty of water, making it an excellent drink after meals. It helps improve digestion, reduces acidity, cools the stomach, and replenishes electrolytes. Experts advise choosing coconut water for instant hydration and buttermilk for digestive comfort. They also recommend including water-rich fruits such as watermelon, cucumber, muskmelon, and bottle gourd in the diet while avoiding excessive tea, coffee, alcohol, and carbonated drinks to prevent dehydration and body heat.
Note: Both coconut water and buttermilk are healthy beverages. The right choice depends on your body's hydration needs, digestion, and overall health condition.
