Cinematic universes are steadily becoming a major trend in Indian cinema. With audiences increasingly drawn to larger, interconnected narratives, filmmakers are moving beyond standalone films to explore sequels, spin-offs, and crossover worlds that connect multiple stories. This approach allows for richer storytelling, character arcs that span several films, and a fan experience that feels immersive and continuous.
Director Sujeeth appears to be embracing this trend wholeheartedly. In his recent release They Call Him OG, which hit theaters on September 25, Sujeeth cleverly included a narrative link to his earlier blockbuster Saaho. Moreover, the film featured a post-credit sequence that teased the upcoming They Call Him OG 2, hinting at an expanded cinematic universe that promises to connect multiple films and characters over time.
During his recent promotional visit to the USA for special screenings of They Call Him OG, Sujeeth’s interactions with fans sparked even more speculation about the future of his cinematic universe. When asked whether Akira, the son of superstar Pawan Kalyan, would appear in the OG prequel, Sujeeth smiled mysteriously and said, “If I reveal it now, the thrill will be spoiled,” leaving fans buzzing with curiosity.
The director’s playful approach continued when a fan asked if actor Nani would be a part of his cinematic universe. Sujeeth teasingly responded, “Do you want it or not?” to a cheering crowd, his mischievous smile further fueling speculation about potential collaborations and future storylines. In parallel, Sujeeth has also recently launched his next film with Nani, a dark comedy produced jointly by Niharika Entertainment and Unanimous Productions, in Hyderabad during the Dussehra festivities. \
Tentatively titled #NaniXSujeeth, the film is expected to go into production once Nani completes work on The Paradise. Industry insiders suggest that the project is being positioned as a unique, genre-bending experience, with a tentative release scheduled for late 2026.
With Sujeeth actively building connections between his films and teasing characters across different stories, it seems that Indian cinema is gradually embracing the era of cinematic universes, offering audiences a new way to experience storytelling on a larger scale.
