YS Jagan Announces Tour to Support Tobacco Farmers

YSR Congress Party President Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy announced that he would visit the undivided West Godavari district within the next week to ten days to express solidarity with tobacco farmers affected by the ongoing price crisis. He said he is likely to tour Gopalapuram or Jangareddygudem, where he will interact with farmers, understand their concerns and intensify pressure on the state government. He added that if the government fails to respond, he will undertake another visit to Kandukur within a few days. The YSRCP also plans to organise protests in districts where tobacco farmers are facing hardships.

Jagan stated that the party would stand by farmers across Andhra Pradesh regardless of the crop they cultivate. He alleged that although tobacco auctions began around 94 days ago, only about 16.5 percent of the crop had been procured. According to him, nearly 232 million kilograms of tobacco were produced in the state, but only about 38 million kilograms had been purchased so far. He asserted that the party would continue its agitation until the government addresses the concerns of farmers.
