The possibility of senior batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli featuring in the next ODI World Cup has been a topic of discussion. BCCI president Mithun Manhas has said that age alone should not determine a player’s selection, stressing that fitness and performance are the key criteria. He noted that players who remain fully fit, perform consistently and contribute to India’s victories should continue to be considered for the team. Rohit and Kohli are currently preparing for the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand.
Manhas also expressed confidence in India’s ODI captain Shubman Gill, pointing to his leadership experience with the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League. He said the experience of senior players such as Rohit and Kohli could prove valuable to Gill during a World Cup campaign. Manhas added that Jasprit Bumrah could provide leadership in the bowling department, while other players would take responsibility in their respective roles. He believes the support of experienced teammates could help Gill lead the Indian side effectively.
