Rajya Sabha MP and BJP leader Dr K. Laxman criticised the protests led by the Congress and the SJP, alleging that they were misleading the public and undermining confidence in courts and constitutional institutions. Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Laxman accused Rahul Gandhi of pursuing politics centred on gaining power and called on opposition leaders to support their allegations concerning the electoral process with evidence. He also stressed the need to protect the rights of eligible voters and maintain public confidence in electoral institutions.
Laxman said that violating the law in the name of protests and making unsubstantiated allegations were not in the interest of democracy. He alleged that opposition parties were spreading misinformation about the revision of electoral rolls despite clarifications from the Election Commission. According to him, the BJP will organise a nationwide campaign from October 23 to November 5 to counter the opposition’s claims. The planned activities include public meetings in major cities, Chintan Samvad sessions with educators and intellectuals, and meetings involving 200 participants in every Assembly constituency.
