According to a report by the World Bank, while India continues to be classified as a lower-middle-income economy, Telangana has emerged as an upper-middle-income state based on its economic indicators. The report states that India's per capita income stands at ₹2,63,179, whereas Telangana's per capita income has reached ₹5,15,583, highlighting the state's strong economic performance. Telangana has been grouped alongside leading Indian states such as Delhi, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat.
The report further notes that Telangana's economic level has surpassed that of countries such as Indonesia and Vietnam in terms of income classification. In contrast, it states that the economic conditions in states such as Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand remain comparatively weaker, placing them below several developing economies in the income assessment. The findings underline the significant economic disparities that continue to exist among Indian states.
