Vinesh Phogat Alleges Obstruction in Comeback!

Star wrestler Vinesh Phogat has ruled out retirement and already announced her intention to compete at the 2028 Olympics. However, she has alleged that attempts are being made to deliberately block her return to wrestling. Speaking to national media ahead of the Asian and World Championship trials, Phogat said she is eager to make a comeback through the National Open Ranking Tournament. She pointed out that although the registration deadline is April 30, she has been receiving messages stating that the deadline has already passed when she tries to register.

Phogat further stated that she attempted to contact officials of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), but did not receive any response. She also claimed that last-minute changes in selection criteria prevented her from participating in the Federation Cup. According to her, these developments indicate a deliberate attempt to sideline her from key competitions that are crucial for qualifying for the Asian Games and World Championships. Meanwhile, WFI chief Sanjay Singh dismissed the allegations, stating that several wrestlers faced registration issues but resolved them by contacting officials, and assured that no athlete is being denied participation.
