Police have arrested a man for allegedly circulating an AI-generated fake photograph of a leopard on social media, triggering panic among residents in Hyderabad’s Uppal area. The image was shared with claims that a leopard was roaming in the Fathullaguda locality, prompting fears that the animal had entered a residential area. As the post spread, forest department officials and Nagole police became alert and examined the claims. Their investigation reportedly revealed that the photograph was fabricated and that the information about the leopard’s presence was false.
During the investigation, police identified the accused as Sachin, a native of Karnataka. He allegedly used artificial intelligence to create the fake leopard image and circulated it in a way that made it appear to depict a real incident. Police registered a case against him under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and arrested him. Authorities have urged the public to verify information before sharing it online, particularly images and videos that may have been generated using AI. They warned that spreading false information can create unnecessary fear and disturb public order, adding that legal action would be taken against those who deliberately circulate misleading content.
