Amid disruptions to shipping movement through the Strait of Hormuz, Iran’s military has released a video showcasing its naval capabilities in the region. According to Iranian officials, suicide drone boats and underground missile facilities are currently deployed near the strategic waterway.
The video, broadcast by Iran’s state television channel, shows a long underground bunker where a large number of suicide drone boats are stored in sequence. The footage also appears to display anti-ship missiles and sea mines inside the same bunker.
Another clip in the video shows weapons being launched from military systems. However, it is still unclear when and where the footage was recorded. It is not confirmed whether the video was filmed after recent tensions involving the United States and Israel or earlier.
Naval drones, also known as Unmanned Surface Vehicles (USVs), are relatively small vessels designed to operate on the surface of the sea or slightly below it. These drones are equipped with explosive materials and are designed to detonate upon reaching their target.
Reports suggest that Iran has previously used similar naval drones in attacks on oil tankers in the Persian Gulf. These drone boats are believed to be intended for targeting oil tankers and ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important shipping routes.
