Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh witnessed a massive lamp-lighting event on Thursday evening as part of the ‘Aashirwad Ka Diya’ programme held to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 76th birthday. A total of 33.27 lakh diyas were lit simultaneously along the banks of the Kshipra River and at the Mahakal Lok corridor, with the organisers reporting a world record. The event was attended by BJP national president Nitin Nabin, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and other leaders.
The lighting began after a siren at around 7 pm, with more than 25,000 volunteers, devotees and citizens participating in the event. Diyas were arranged to create an image of Prime Minister Modi, adding to the visual spectacle. Across Madhya Pradesh, around 3.55 crore diyas were reportedly lit simultaneously at hundreds of locations.
