For many young people and ordinary citizens, securing a job abroad is a dream and an opportunity to improve their financial situation. However, fraudulent recruitment agents are increasingly exploiting this ambition by promising overseas employment and collecting lakhs of rupees from unsuspecting job seekers. To curb such scams and make overseas migration safer and more transparent, the Central Government has made the upgraded e-Migrate portal available. The platform aims to help candidates verify recruitment agents, check job offers and access reliable information before travelling abroad. It reportedly provides details of more than 2,300 active registered recruitment agents recognised by the government. Applicants can search for an agent’s licence number and verify its validity, while details of agencies blacklisted by the government and complaints against fraudulent recruiters are also made available.
The portal also provides information about registered foreign employers, allowing job seekers to check whether a company is officially registered and whether an overseas job offer is genuine. The Ministry of External Affairs has added several digital services to make the platform more user-friendly. Through DigiLocker integration, candidates can securely submit important documents, including passports and employment contracts, without relying on physical paperwork. The Bhashini app helps people who are not comfortable with English access information in regional Indian languages, including Telugu. The portal also supports digital payments without additional transaction charges and allows eligible migrant workers to purchase the Pravasi Bharatiya Bima Yojana insurance policy directly through the platform.
The e-Migrate portal also offers a grievance redressal facility for workers facing problems after reaching a foreign country. Employees or their family members can submit online complaints to the Ministry of External Affairs if employers harass them or fail to pay salaries as agreed in the employment contract. A 24-hour multilingual helpline and WhatsApp support are also available for emergency assistance at +91 74283 21144. In addition, candidates can check the licence numbers and validity of registered recruitment agents, access schedules of local overseas employment interviews and use services through Common Service Centres. These features are intended to provide greater protection and support to Indians seeking employment abroad.
