The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has issued a strict advisory to filmmakers and producers, making it clear that announced release dates cannot be used as a reason to demand faster film certification. The board has stated that certification committees will review films within the prescribed legal framework and take the time required to complete the process. The advisory was issued by CBFC CEO Rajendra Singh, introducing stricter instructions for producers seeking certification for films and trailers.
The board has also instructed producers to apply for certification only after completing all post-production work, including final graphics, background score, credits, sound mixing and subtitles. Applications containing incomplete or work-in-progress versions may be rejected. The CBFC further clarified that mentioning a film title in the application does not amount to final approval, as the Examining Committee has the authority to suggest changes under the applicable rules. Producers have been advised to apply well in advance of their planned release dates in accordance with the Cinematograph Act, 1952, and the 2024 Rules.
