Anantapur Government Hospital Superintendent Malliswari has shared an update on the health condition of Hemant, the accused in the Raptadu incident in Anantapur district. Hemant was injured in police firing while being apprehended. According to Malliswari, doctors are closely monitoring his condition. An X-ray of his legs reportedly showed no bullets, but his right leg sustained a severe injury. Due to a lack of blood circulation, the leg has developed tissue damage, and doctors say there is a possibility that part of it may have to be amputated.
Malliswari said an anaesthesia specialist is continuously monitoring the accused’s health. A decision regarding the possible amputation will be taken after reviewing the X-ray results and the anaesthesia doctor’s report. The incident took place on Saturday at the Raptadu Zilla Parishad High School, where Hemant allegedly attacked Class 10 student Gopika with a chainsaw. According to District SP Jagadish, police fired at Hemant while attempting to arrest him in the Atmakur forest after he allegedly tried to attack Circle Inspector Venkatesh. Despite warning shots, Hemant reportedly continued his assault, prompting police to shoot him in the legs. He was brought to Anantapur Government Hospital by ambulance at around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday.
