Social media was flooded with satirical posts linking the Republican Party’s reported setback in the US midterm elections under Donald Trump’s leadership to political developments in India. Several users referred to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar while sharing memes and sarcastic comments. One widely shared post on X featured a fictional scene of US President Donald Trump entering a waiting room where Prime Minister Narendra Modi was seated, seemingly asking, “Bro, can you give us Gyanesh?” The posts drew on allegations of ‘vote chori’ raised by Indian opposition parties and used Kumar’s name as the subject of political satire.
Abhijit Deepke, founder of the Cockroach Janata Party, Congress media and publicity department head Pawan Khera, and Supreme Court lawyer Prashant Bhushan were among those who shared sarcastic remarks on X. While some posts suggested that Trump needed Gyanesh Kumar, others jokingly portrayed him as being sent to the US to advise officials on conducting elections. Some even circulated mock news reports claiming that Kumar would travel to America at Trump’s request. These posts were satirical in nature and do not indicate any actual request by Trump or an official plan for Gyanesh Kumar to visit the United States.
