A proposal has been submitted to the Ministry of Civil Aviation to shift 14 international flight services from Mumbai Airport to the Navi Mumbai International Airport. The proposal, reportedly sent by Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL), comes ahead of the planned redevelopment of Mumbai Airport’s Terminal 1. The destinations under consideration include Bahrain, Dammam, Dhaka, Doha, Fujairah, Jakarta, Jeddah, Kathmandu, Kuwait, Medina, Muscat, Ras Al Khaimah, Riyadh and Sharjah. If approved, flights operating to these destinations could be shifted to the new airport.
Airlines including IndiGo, the Air India Group and Akasa are also reportedly preparing to move their flight operations to Navi Mumbai. The redevelopment work at Mumbai Airport’s Terminal 1 is scheduled to begin in April 2027. The proposed shift is intended to facilitate the redevelopment while helping maintain flight operations. However, the relocation of the international services will depend on approval from the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
