The Donald Trump administration is continuing its push to increase the H-1B visa fee, refusing to back down despite a recent setback in court. A federal court in Boston recently struck down the administration’s decision to raise the H-1B visa fee to $100,000, ruling that the move was unlawful. However, the U.S. Department of Justice has now initiated steps to challenge the verdict and seek an appeal.
Trump’s decision to raise the H-1B visa fee, announced in September last year, sparked widespread debate across the globe. Several states led by Democratic leaders, along with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and business groups, challenged the move in court. While the federal court ruling initially brought relief to companies that rely on skilled foreign workers, the administration’s latest appeal efforts indicate that the legal battle is far from over. As a result, uncertainty surrounding the proposed fee hike is expected to continue for several more months.
