Tensions have flared up once again in West Asia after the United States accused Iran of attempting attacks on its military bases. The US Central Command stated that several missiles launched by Iran were successfully intercepted by its forces. In response, the US, along with Saudi Arabia, carried out strikes on military facilities in eastern Iraq that are allegedly used by Iran-backed armed groups. The US has warned Iran and its allied forces to immediately halt such attacks or face strong retaliation.
According to the US Central Command, the joint operation was conducted in retaliation for more than 30 drone attacks over the past 72 hours. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia confirmed that it intercepted drones launched from Iraq targeting oil facilities for the second consecutive day. Similar attacks were reported earlier this week as well. Amid rising tensions, Iraq’s Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi has directed security agencies to launch a thorough investigation into the incidents.
