Ahead of the local body elections, excise and enforcement officials conducted special inspections at Markapur railway station on Monday to prevent the illegal transportation of non-duty-paid liquor and cannabis from other states. The operation was carried out under the supervision of Markapur Prohibition and Excise Inspector (In-charge) Kondareddy, following instructions from the Director of Enforcement in Vijayawada. Teams from the Vijayawada Special Task Force (STF), Ongole Enforcement, Markapur Enforcement STF, Prohibition and Excise Department, and Railway Protection Force (RPF) participated in the joint operation.
Passengers and their luggage on the Prashanti, Kondaveedu, Kacheguda and Narsapur Express trains arriving at Markapur station were thoroughly checked. Officials said no illegal liquor bottles or cannabis were found during the inspections. They also advised passengers not to transport illegal liquor or cannabis in violation of election rules and cautioned them against carrying cash or liquor beyond permitted limits. Inspector Kondareddy warned that violations would invite legal action under the applicable laws.
