The election process for Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituencies (MPTCs) and Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituencies (ZPTCs) in Andhra Pradesh is approaching a crucial stage. According to the supplied report, nominations were accepted from October 21 to 23, and scrutiny was completed on October 24. Appeals concerning rejected nominations were also examined and resolved by the authorities. The deadline for candidates to withdraw their nominations is October 27 at 3 PM. After the deadline, returning officers are expected to publish the final list of candidates contesting each seat and complete the allotment of election symbols. The status of seats where candidates are elected unopposed is also expected to become clearer after the final lists are released.
Under the current schedule, polling for the MPTC and ZPTC elections is set for November 3. However, the rescheduling of municipal elections means that vote counting for municipalities and municipal corporations is also due to take place that day. Officials are reportedly concerned that conducting local body polling alongside municipal vote counting could create challenges involving police deployment, staffing and administration. In view of these concerns, the State Election Commission is said to be considering shifting the polling date to November 5 or a later date. A revised date should be treated as unconfirmed until the Commission issues an official announcement.
