Temple Audit Objections Pile Up in Eluru District

Audit objections reportedly worth ₹86.21 crore have accumulated across 154 temples in Eluru district up to the 2024-25 financial year. According to the details provided, several temples have faced objections relating to expenditure on festivals, religious ceremonies, annadanam and other activities. Objections have also reportedly been raised over staff strength and salary payments, as well as the collection of revenue from agricultural lands and commercial properties leased by temples.

The reported audit observations also include instances where expenses were recorded for flowers, fruits, puja materials, electrical decorations and other arrangements despite claims that some devotees had provided these items through donations. Across temples falling under different categories, a total of 28,592 audit objections were reportedly recorded, with responses submitted for less than half of them. The report has raised questions over financial management, revenue collection and accountability in the administration of temples. Officials responsible for the respective temples are expected to provide explanations and take corrective measures wherever required.
