Telangana Government Revises GHMC Street Lighting Project

The Telangana government has approved key revisions to the ₹1,341.60-crore GHMC Street Lighting Operation and Maintenance (O&M) Project, aimed at improving urban lighting infrastructure across Hyderabad. Under the revised framework, the maintenance of LED street lights will continue for a period of 10 years, while the replacement of all LED street lights is scheduled to be completed within two years. The government has also directed that CCMS (Central Control and Monitoring System) boxes be replaced within six months to strengthen monitoring and operational efficiency.

The revised guidelines also include changes to tender eligibility criteria, with the solvency requirement reduced to 10% of the contract value. Contractors will be required to supply 15,000 additional LED street lights every year throughout the 10-year contract period. Additionally, the government has permitted the use of insurance surety bonds in place of EMD and performance guarantees. In another significant decision, GHMC has been designated as the nodal agency for implementing the CURE area project.
