Telangana continues to experience dry weather with no significant rainfall in sight. Despite it being the monsoon season, the state is witnessing scorching temperatures, high humidity, and a lack of cool weather. The prevailing El Niño conditions have kept rainfall activity subdued over the past week, leaving farmers worried about the progress of the Kharif cultivation season.
Weather experts say there could be a slight change in conditions from Thursday, with light showers expected in a few districts. However, widespread rainfall is unlikely. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) data shows that Telangana has received only 4 cm of rainfall so far in July, against the normal 10 cm expected by mid-month, resulting in a rainfall deficit of nearly 60%.
The rainfall shortage has affected 29 districts across the state. Only Nalgonda, Rangareddy, Nagarkurnool, and Mulugu have recorded normal rainfall, while the remaining districts continue to report deficits. Hanamkonda has recorded the highest deficit at 66%. Since June 1, Telangana should have received 23.6 cm of rainfall but has recorded only 15 cm, raising concerns over agriculture and water availability.
